Accessibility Statement
Last updated: June 23, 2026
DataField.Dev is committed to making its open textbooks usable by the widest possible audience, including readers who rely on assistive technologies. We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA.
Measures we take
Accessibility is built into how every book is generated, so these features apply consistently across all 71 textbooks and their thousands of pages:
- Semantic structure: Pages use proper HTML landmarks (header, navigation, main, footer) and a logical heading hierarchy, so screen-reader users can navigate by region and heading.
- Keyboard navigation: All interactive elements are reachable and operable by keyboard, and a "skip to content" link is provided at the top of every page.
- Readable by default: Body text uses relative units and a high-contrast color palette; a light/dark theme toggle is available for low-vision and light-sensitivity needs.
- Responsive and zoomable: Layouts reflow on small screens and remain usable at high zoom levels without horizontal scrolling.
- Descriptive links and labels: Links and controls have meaningful text or ARIA labels; the theme toggle and navigation controls are labeled for assistive technology.
- Math and code: Mathematical notation is rendered with KaTeX, which exposes accessible markup; code blocks use semantic
<pre>/<code> elements.
Known limitations
Despite our efforts, some content may not yet be fully accessible:
- Some diagrams, charts, and complex tables may lack complete text alternatives. We are progressively adding descriptions.
- Complex mathematical expressions may read imperfectly in some screen-reader and browser combinations.
- A small number of older pages may not yet meet every Level AA success criterion.
Open license supports adaptation
Every textbook is openly licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0. This means educators and institutions are free to adapt the material into more accessible formats (for example, braille, large print, or alternative file types) to meet specific needs, provided attribution is given.
Feedback and requests
If you encounter an accessibility barrier, or need a specific page in an alternative format, please let us know through our About page. We treat accessibility reports as a priority and aim to respond promptly.
