A regular, periodic variation in the pitch (frequency vibrato) or amplitude (amplitude vibrato/tremolo) of a musical tone, typically at a rate of 5–8 Hz and a depth of ±25–100 cents. Vibrato is an essential expressive device in singing and bowed string playing; it enriches timbre by smearing the har
