Defensive Techniques Analysis
Different defensive styles have varying effectiveness depending on opponent style and physical attributes.
Primary Defensive Styles
- High Guard - Arms up protecting head, absorbing punches on gloves/arms
- Shoulder Roll - Using shoulder rotation to deflect punches
- Peek-a-Boo - Tight guard with head movement, moving inside
- Philly Shell - Lead shoulder up, rear hand high, front hand low
Effectiveness Indicators
- Low opponent power accuracy (under 25%)
- Few clean head shots landed
- Opponent fatigue from missed punches
- Ability to counter immediately after defense
Style Matchups
- High guard - Vulnerable to body attacks and feints
- Shoulder roll - Requires excellent timing, risky against volume punchers
- Peek-a-Boo - Effective against tall opponents, requires constant movement
- Movement-based - Works until corners/ropes, needs ring space
