Defensive Techniques Analysis

Different defensive styles have varying effectiveness depending on opponent style and physical attributes.

Primary Defensive Styles

  • High Guard - Arms up protecting head, absorbing punches on gloves/arms
  • Shoulder Roll - Using shoulder rotation to deflect punches
  • Peek-a-Boo - Tight guard with head movement, moving inside
  • Philly Shell - Lead shoulder up, rear hand high, front hand low

Effectiveness Indicators

  • Low opponent power accuracy (under 25%)
  • Few clean head shots landed
  • Opponent fatigue from missed punches
  • Ability to counter immediately after defense

Style Matchups

  • High guard - Vulnerable to body attacks and feints
  • Shoulder roll - Requires excellent timing, risky against volume punchers
  • Peek-a-Boo - Effective against tall opponents, requires constant movement
  • Movement-based - Works until corners/ropes, needs ring space
