Batting is one of the most exciting aspects of cricket. Mastering the basics is essential for any aspiring cricketer.
The Proper Grip
- Hold the bat with both hands close together
- The V-shape formed by thumb and index finger should point between your shoulder and chest
- Keep a relaxed but firm grip
- Top hand controls direction, bottom hand provides power
Batting Stance
- Stand sideways to the bowler with feet shoulder-width apart
- Keep your weight balanced on the balls of your feet
- Bend your knees slightly for flexibility
- Keep your head level and eyes on the bowler
- Hold the bat between waist and thigh height
Basic Shots
- Forward Defense: Fundamental defensive shot with bat and pad close together
- Back Defense: Playing back to short-pitched deliveries
