2. Davenport, T. H. & Ronanki, R. (2018). "Artificial Intelligence for the Real World." Harvard Business Review, January-February 2018. A foundational article that categorizes AI applications into three types — process automation, cognitive insight, and cognitive engagement — and maps each to organizational use cases. While published before the generative AI wave, the taxonomy remains useful for the use case identification phase of the capstone. 3. Fountaine, T., McCarthy, B., & Saleh, T. (2019). "Building the AI-Powered Organization." Harvard Business Review, July-August 2019. A McKinsey-affiliated analysis of why AI transformations fail and what successful organizations do differently. The authors identify ten organizational shifts required for AI at scale, including moving from siloed data to unified data platforms, from ad hoc analytics to factory-model AI development, and from top-down strategy to bottom-up experimentation. 4. McKinsey Global Institute. (2024). The State of AI: How Organizations Are Rewiring to Capture Value. McKinsey & Company. The 2024 edition covers the generative AI adoption wave, the widening gap between AI leaders and laggards, and the organizational factors that distinguish high-performing AI organizations. 5. Brock, J. K.-U. & von Wangenheim, F. (2019). "Demystifying AI: What Digital Transformation Leaders Can Teach You About Realistic Artificial Intelligence." California Management Review, 61(4), 110-134. A study of twelve AI transformation leaders across industries that identifies common patterns in successful transformations. The authors find that successful organizations: (1) start with business problems, not technology, (2) invest disproportionately in data infrastructure, (3) build cross-functional teams, and (4) iterate rapidly through experimentation. 6. Alsheibani, S., Cheung, Y., & Messom, C. (2020). "Factors Inhibiting the Adoption of Artificial Intelligence at Organizational-Level: A Preliminary Investigation." 7. Microsoft & EY. (2024). AI Maturity Study. Ernst & Young and Microsoft. The study finds that only 12 percent of organizations are at the "Managed" or "Optimized" level, and that the largest maturity gaps exist in governance, change management, and data quality — not in technology investment. 12. Kotter, J. P. (2012). Leading Change. Harvard Business Review Press. The classic text on organizational change management, presenting the eight-step model for transformative change: create urgency, form a guiding coalition, develop a vision and strategy, communicate the vision, empower action, generate quick wins, consolidate gains, and anchor in culture. While not AI-specific, Kotter's framework is directly applicable to the change management plan in Section 39.9 and explains why quick wins (Phase 1) are structurally necessary for sustained transformation.

13. Prosci. (2023). Best Practices in Change Management. 12th Edition. Prosci Inc. The most comprehensive empirical study of change management practices, based on data from over 10,000 change initiatives across industries. The ADKAR model (Awareness, Desire, Knowledge, Ability, Reinforcement) introduced in Chapter 35 and applied in Section 39.9 comes from Prosci's research. The 12th edition includes data on AI-specific change initiatives, finding that AI transformations have higher resistance rates than other technology changes — primarily due to job displacement fear and distrust of algorithmic decisions.

The Act classifies AI systems by risk level (unacceptable, high, limited, minimal) and imposes corresponding requirements. For capstone plans targeting industries with EU exposure — or for any plan that includes use cases classified as "high-risk" under the Act (healthcare diagnostics, employment screening, credit scoring) — understanding the Act's requirements is essential for the governance framework and regulatory risk assessment.

17. DBS Bank. (2019-2023). DBS Annual Reports and Digital Transformation Publications. DBS's own documentation of its transformation — including annual reports, technology blog posts, sustainability reports, and investor presentations — provides the most detailed primary-source material for Case Study 1. The bank's transparency about its transformation journey, including metrics, challenges, and cultural initiatives, makes it an exceptionally well-documented case.

18. Gupta, P. (2019). "Purpose-Driven Banking." McKinsey Quarterly. DBS CEO Piyush Gupta's articulation of the bank's transformation philosophy, emphasizing purpose, culture, and stakeholder value alongside financial performance. The interview provides insight into the CEO-led transformation model and the role of executive commitment in sustaining organizational change — relevant to the stakeholder analysis and executive sponsorship components of the capstone.

19. Maersk. (2020-2024). Maersk Technology and Digital Strategy Publications. 20. Brynjolfsson, E. & McAfee, A. (2017). "The Business of Artificial Intelligence." Harvard Business Review, July 2017. A widely cited overview of AI's business applications and organizational requirements. Brynjolfsson and McAfee's distinction between "machine learning" (prediction) and "human judgment" (decision) provides a useful lens for the human-in-the-loop design principle applied throughout the capstone's governance framework. The recommendations cover model development, deployment, and use — and provide a useful template for the generative AI governance components of the capstone plan.
