The SNAPPS model (Summarize, Narrow, Analyze, Probe, Plan, Select) is a structured framework for clinical feedback conversations that produces more specific, educationally valuable exchanges than unstructured attending rounds. Studies comparing structured vs. unstructured feedback in medical education consistently show better skill development with structured approaches.

Marcus's most valuable feedback comes from cases where his diagnostic reasoning was tested — where he was required to commit to a differential diagnosis before the attending physician revealed theirs. This automation is a gift for learners: a feedback loop that operates instantly and objectively on every piece of code you write. The discipline of writing good tests before writing code creates the feedback mechanism before the skill is exercised — a particularly elegant form of deliberate practice design.

What automation can't do: tell you whether your design decisions are good, whether your abstractions are well-chosen, whether your code will be maintainable over time. For these aspects, code review from more experienced engineers is irreplaceable.

Full system: Across all your active learning projects, you have: (1) a mechanism for regular objective feedback on outcomes (metrics, scores, times), (2) a mechanism for regular specific feedback on process (recording, review, coaching), (3) a self-assessment practice that precedes external feedback, and (4) an error log that tracks patterns over time. The feedback system is as designed as the practice itself.
