The compliance professional's role in technology transformation is not simply to specify requirements and approve go-live. It is to lead a human change — to help experienced analysts translate their expertise into new environments; to help junior staff build competence under conditions of regulatory consequence; to help business partners adapt to changes in compliance processes; and to help senior leadership understand what they are asking the organization to do when they approve a technology investment.
That is leadership work. It requires the same skills that make an effective compliance professional in any other domain: communication, judgment, empathy, and the ability to translate between technical complexity and human reality.
The technology transformation will produce a compliance program that is more effective, more efficient, and more resilient to regulatory examination. Getting there requires everything this chapter has described. The good news is that compliance professionals are, by training and temperament, exactly the people equipped to lead it.
