Pattern 2: The Interview Analyzer
Purpose: Extracting structured themes, insights, and tensions from stakeholder interview transcripts.
When to use: After conducting stakeholder interviews, before synthesis.
Template:

Extract and structure the following:
1. KEY THEMES: What are the 4-6 most significant themes across all interviews?

2. TENSIONS AND CONTRADICTIONS: Where do different stakeholders hold
contradictory views? List each tension, identify the stakeholder positions,
and note the organizational implication.
3. SENTIMENT MAP: For each of the following areas, what is the overall
sentiment (positive / mixed / negative / unclear)? [LIST AREAS — e.g.,
current state, leadership, change readiness, specific initiative]
4. NOTABLE QUOTES: 5-10 quotes that are particularly vivid, important, or
representative of a key theme. Include speaker role.
5. GAPS AND QUESTIONS: What important topics were not addressed in these
interviews that should be explored?
Transcripts:

The "grounded in the situation described" requirement and the prohibition on "generic consulting language" transformed the output quality.
Her note: "The generic output problem was real. Without the explicit instruction to ground every finding in the specific situation, I got SWOT analyses that could apply to any company in the industry. With it, I get something I can actually build on."
Pattern 4: The Slide Checker
Purpose: Reviewing consulting slide content for common quality issues before client delivery.
When to use: Final review stage before sending any client-facing presentation.

Check for:
1. UNSUPPORTED ASSERTIONS: Any claim presented as fact without evidence,
data, or attribution. Quote the claim and explain what support is missing.
2. LOGIC GAPS: Places where the conclusion does not follow from the evidence
presented, or where a step in the argument is missing. Be specific.
3. VAGUE RECOMMENDATIONS: Any recommendation that is not specific enough
to act on ("improve communication" vs. "implement weekly cross-functional
briefing"). Quote and propose a more specific alternative.
4. AUDIENCE MIS-FIT: Content that would confuse, alienate, or bore
[AUDIENCE — e.g., "C-suite executives with operational backgrounds"].
Note the specific issue and suggested revision.
5. UNNECESSARY CONTENT: Slides or points that do not earn their place —
they do not advance the story or support the recommendation.
After the issue log, provide: an overall assessment (Ready for Client /
Needs Revision / Needs Significant Rework) with a one-sentence justification.

It was a small thing in a large document, but it shook the client's confidence. Since building this pattern, that type of error hasn't made it to a client meeting."
Pattern Iteration After Each Client
Elena's most distinctive practice is not the initial build — it's the iteration. After every engagement, she spends 30 minutes reviewing which patterns she used and how they performed:
- Did any pattern produce output that needed substantial revision? If so, why?
- Did any pattern fail to handle something specific to this engagement's context?

The current version specifies "4-6 most significant themes" and adds "consolidate related sub-themes rather than listing them separately." The sentiments map was added in v2 after she found herself manually creating it for every engagement.
Slide Checker v1 → v2: The original version flagged too many issues of similar severity, making it hard to prioritize what to fix. The current version has the "after the issue log, provide an overall assessment" instruction, which forces prioritization and gives her a quick read on how much work the deck needs.
Factual Auditor v1 → v4: The first version had three categories instead of four. The D category — "opinion or judgment presented as fact" — was added after a client challenged a characterization in a report that was technically accurate but framed in a way that sounded more certain than it should have. The "needs hedging language" instruction prevents the same issue from recurring.
The Competitive Advantage Claim
Elena is direct about why she considers her pattern library a competitive advantage:
"I can do a certain type of engagement faster than competitors and with more consistent quality. Not because I'm smarter, but because I've systematized the structural decisions and the quality control steps. A junior consultant at another firm who is building a competitive analysis framework from scratch every time is spending days on structure that I spend hours on.
