The appropriate destination depends on the nature of the violation and the regulatory framework that applies. Whistleblower protections and financial award programs vary by regulatory destination.
Build a support network. Haugen did not act alone; she had legal counsel, journalist contacts, and a network of people who supported her decision and helped her plan it. Employees considering significant disclosures should not act in isolation. Expect retaliation risk. Even with strong legal preparation, whistleblowers face retaliation risk.
