While there are no prerequisites, it's useful to know where you're starting from. Answer these questions honestly — there are no wrong answers, and nobody else needs to see your responses. This is between you and your brain.

Don't score this yet. Save your answers. In Chapter 2, you'll take a more comprehensive assessment (the Metacognitive Awareness Inventory), and by Chapter 28, you'll revisit these responses to see how far you've come.
What to Expect
If you scored high on items 1-3 and low on items 4-9, you're in exactly the right place. Those first three habits — rereading, highlighting, and cramming — are among the least effective study strategies according to research, even though they feel productive.
The good news: the strategies that work better are learnable. That's what this book teaches.
If you already scored high on items 4-9, you have a strong metacognitive foundation. The 🏃 Fast Track annotations will help you move through familiar material quickly and focus on the chapters that offer you the most growth.
Either way, welcome. Your brain is about to get an upgrade.
