What this chapter added

Northwind satisfied seven of seven diagnostics, and until week thirty-one its production document was a delivery schedule with eleven rows.

The dependency map took fifty minutes and found that the critical path totalled 29 hours against 29 available — zero margin, arrived at by coincidence.

And the shortfall was in two different units that do not add: four hours of missing path contingency, and seven crew-hours of Wednesday capacity consumed by a certification session added in Chapter 31, against an AV quote written for the old agenda. "Eleven hours short" was the shorthand, and it was two different elevens added together by people in a hurry — which is this chapter's own recurring error, committed in its own case study.

Four changes, none of which cost the client anything. The room handover moved from 18:00 to 15:30 on one phone call, and it had been available all along because nobody had asked. Breakout AV moved to Tuesday, returning seven crew-hours of Wednesday. The truck order was inverted — AV had been first because AV is the biggest supplier, and the dependency map says floor, then staging, then AV. And the speaker rehearsal moved to a worse slot on Wednesday morning, off the critical path — where attendance went from 3 of 6 to 6 of 6, because at 19:00 a rehearsal competes with dinner and at 08:00 it competes with breakfast.

The house electrician volunteered, in a corridor, that the Cascadia's kitchen and ballroom share a distribution board and that an LED wall flickers during dinner service. The hotel has known for two years and it is on no document.

And three things went wrong anyway: gaffer tape ordered at a one-day rate for a three-day build · two breakout rooms double-booked by the hotel's own sales team, resolved in twenty minutes because a signed room list existed · and the crew break room and the speakers' green room colliding, because the space column covered every room where work happened and none of the rooms where people rest.
